This 1987 Volkswagen Vanagon GL Westfalia was initially delivered through Carter Volkswagen in Seattle, Washington, moved to Ontario, Canada in 2006, and was acquired by the seller in 2023. Finished in Wolfram Grey Metallic over Grey velour, the van is powered by a water-cooled 2.1L flat-four mated to a four-speed manual transaxle. Equipment includes a GoWesty stainless steel exhaust system and cooling hoses, Bilstein dampers, front disc brakes, 16? alloy wheels, a pop-top roof tent, a side awning, roof crossbars, GoWesty steel bumpers, a receiver hitch, external utility connections, a flat-folding rear bench/bed, a sink, a stove, storage compartments, privacy curtains, air conditioning, crank windows, and a Pioneer CD stereo with Bluetooth connectivity linked to a custom sound system. Work since 2023 included servicing the engine and transaxle, and overhauling the cooling and air conditioning systems, in addition to the suspension and brakes. Silver-finished 16? GoWesty alloy wheels are mounted with Michelin Defender tires. A full-size spare is mounted beneath the vehicle. Stopping power is provided by power-assisted front discs and rear drums. Service under current ownership included replacing the tie rods, tie rod ends, shocks, wheel bearings, brake hoses, rear wheel cylinders, rotors, pads, drums, and shoes.
The forward cabin features captainβs chairs trimmed in Grey velour. Appointments include air conditioning, crank windows, and a Bluetooth-capable Pioneer CD stereo linked to Kicker speakers and a Blaupunkt compact subwoofer. The shift linkage was replaced in 2024.
The right-side sliding door opens to reveal a pop-up tent with a bed platform, skylight, and zip-open windows, along with a GoWesty rear-facing second-row jump seat and a third-row bench that folds into a bed. The two-spoke steering wheel fronts VDO instrumentation consisting of a 100-mph speedometer, a tachometer, a digital clock, and gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level. The six-digit odometer shows 68k miles, less than 2k of which were driven under current ownership. The Carfax report carries mileage inconsistencies in May 2014 and January 2016, and notes that the 2014 entry may be the result of a clerical error. Total mileage is unknown.
The liquid-cooled 2.1L flat-four was factory rated at 95 horsepower and 117 lb-ft of torque and features Digifant fuel injection as well as a GoWesty stainless steel exhaust system and cooling hoses.
